Myka first joined the BVAR project in 2001. After successfully completing the field course she returned to the project as a volunteer and was hired to work as part of the Tourism Development Project excavations of Caracol (2001 - 2004). There she served as assistant to Sherry Gibbs (Field Director of Caracol), supervising excavations of this important site. After working at Caracol she supervised salvage excavations in the Chalillo area of the Macal Valley (north of Caracol) in preparation of hydro-electrical development in the area. In 2005 Myka returned to BVAR to manage recruitment and logistics. In 2006 she supervised excavations at Cahal Pech.
